Investment history

Walpe was founded in 1963. Active operating history started in 1993. Walpe's major investments have been in three markets: Finland, the Baltic States and China.

1993 – 1995 investment focus in the Finnish stock market
1995 – 2006 also significant investments in Baltic real estates
2006 investment focus shift to Hong Kong and other Asian markets

We are currently investing in growing and well managed companies in the Far East.

Investment approach

Since 1993 Walpe has achieved on average a 22,5 % annual return on equity. These results can be attributed to a large extent to five major investments during three decades as well as diligent portfolio management.

Our major investments have shared three common factors:

Baltic countries after the collapse of the Soviet
Union and the rise of China
We have invested in severely undervalued assets
We have found some of the best companies and assets
– and overweighted them substantially

In investing, we consider co-operation with other investors a strength.

Since its operative history began, Walpe has achieved a 22,5% compounded growth calculated from starting and ending equity values on an after taxes basis and excluding appreciations - purely through investing activities.

This means that through its almost 20 year operating history Walpe has taken on average 3,5 years to double its after tax balance sheet equity. - An euro invested in Walpe in 1993 has turned into 31,50 euros by the end of 2010.

On a mark to market basis Walpes after tax compounded equity growth rate for this period is about 26 %, which means it has taken on average 3 years to double its mark to market equity. An euro has turned into 50 euros.
